Stitch Fix Review September 2015- plus a Giveaway

It's Stitch Fix time again!  It's like a little surprise that I can count on every month!  If you don't know what Stitch Fix is all about yet, you can read all of the details here.

I'm giving away another $20 Stitch Fix gift card this month, so stick around til the end to find out more about that!!

I've been getting Stitch Fix for a whole year now.  If you missed my Year Of Stitch Fix post, you can find it here.  I went back through all of my past fixes and broke down which items I still wear every day, which ones I wish I had sent back, and which items I'm sorry I did.

After writing that article, I decided I should start being more selective now that I've been able to build up some great pieces.  So, I'm going to try to only keep items that I can see myself reaching for all the time and always feeling great in.  (Plus, my son has been begging us to take him on a cruise ever since we got back from ours.  Chris and I talked and decided to take him on one for part of his Christmas/birthday present...so I gotta save up for that too!)

Feel free to pin any images to your own Pinterest style boards to help your stylists get to know what you like!

Gilli Marcus Dress  $68

I loved the look when I paired it with my cardigan from this past February.

My stylist knows that I love this brand dress by Gilli and I had one pinned almost exactly like this.  I'm really into how it's solid up top and patterned on the bottom.  I just felt where the horizontal stripes hit me, it accentuated the worst part of my waist. I may or may not have been sucking in my stomach here.  I thought that if I just kept it and always wore it with a cardigan that I would love it, but my new pesky little rule of only keeping what I love and feel comfortable in stuck in my head.  So sadly, this dress was:

Skies Are Blue Becky Cut Out Detail Top  $44

I feel like this is a really nice fall transition piece.  I like the colors, the design, and I even thought the fit was really flattering.  And my stylist knows how I love cut out features in the back.  You would think this shirt would be a home run, but I just didn't "love" it.  Now, if I wasn't trying to stick to my new rule....this shirt would be in my closet right now.  Looking back at the picture, it might be one that I'll regret sending  back.

Market and Spruce Margerie Stripe and Dot Open Cardigan  $68

I had this cardigan pinned.  I love that it's reversible.  Check it out:

Stripes with dots

dots with stripes

Another thing I absolutely love about this piece is that it has a little bit of "ruching" or "gathering" in the middle of the back to make it look more structured.  It kind of gives it a feel like its crossed between a blazer and a cardigan.

gathered in the middle of the back for structure

I feel like this cardigan would go great with white pants or spruce it up with a fun color pair of pants and necklace.

Fun2Fun Holsten Crochet Trim Blouse  $48

This is a great shirt, and I feel like there are a lot of ways to add different pieces to it to change the look, but  I'm just starting to get comfortable wearing florals.  I'm not really a girly girl, what can I say?  I am finding myself being drawn to pieces that have florals as a sort of background design, but it was the major focus of this shirt which made me unsure.  It was also a little tight in the shoulders for me.  However, I love the idea of the lace detailing on the sleeves and how it wasn't skin tight, but could still show your shape.

Dear John Marson Wide Leg Jeans  $78

I had asked my stylist to see if they had any red skinnies or capris.  In my note, she told me that they don't have any yet, but will keep an eye open when more fall items come out.  Instead, she said that these wide leg jeans are becoming very popular.  To me, they seemed more of a "boot cut" than a "wide leg" jean, but I loved them.  You can tell the quality is very good.  They fit great in the waist, butt, and thighs, but as you can tell, they were a few inches too long for me. These would be an excellent pair of jeans for girls who are tall or have long legs.

I found the same brand here on Amazon. This pair looks almost exactly the same as the ones I'm wearing above, but they have a bunch of different styles for this brand too.

I was happy with the fix, even though I only kept one piece, I know that I will get a lot of use out of it.  And my stylist is always on point with checking my Pinterest page and reading my notes and feedback.  I think she goes above and beyond by remembering all of the little things that I like or don't like generally with clothes.  Stitch Fix is a great service and I can't recommend it enough.  If you haven't tried it yet yourself and want to see what a stylist would pick out for you, fill out your style profile with Stitch Fix here.

Can't wait to see what comes next month!!

  1. Eeek, I can't believe you didn't keep the Gilli dress -- it's so cute on you! I love those wide leg jeans too, but I totally get not paying SF price. I got a pair of Henry & Belle's in a fix once and I LOVED them, but they were out of my budget. A couple months later, I got a pair from Zulilly for $32! It pays to shop around!

Zulily is great and $32 is amazing for Henry and Belle!! FYI- have you heard of jane.com?? SO many cute boutique clothes- a lot that look like SF items, for really cheap. Your Welcome- ha!

    1. Hey Tami! So excited you started using SF! If you haven't seen it, I wrote a post on my "Year of SF" and included a link with a lot of tips to get a better fix: http://piecesofme1983.blogspot.com/2015/08/a-year-of-stitch-fix.html

  27. Everything looks great on you, IMO, but also thought your decisions and the reasoning behind them made a lot of sense. I have been wondering about the trend that so many of SF's dresses seem to follow of starting the waist at what seems to me to be an oddly high point--closer to bust than belly button. I so often find myself tugging on their dresses and trying to force the waist down to where it seems it should be. Unsure if that's something about SF or whether that's just the fashion right now.

    Replies
    1. Hi! Yeah, I've noticed it too. I think it's a fashion thing though. Are they called empire waists? I don't mind it, but this one with the horizontal stripes and where it hit just didn't make me feel good, lol.

  28. Good review! Do you have the same stylist every fix?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hey Megan! Yes, I have the same stylist every fix now. Her name is Kristy- she's amazing. I didn't have the same one in the beginning because I was waiting for one that I felt meshed well and understood my style and price needs, etc. Around the 5th fix or so I found her and request her every time!
